Carrot is a tiny girl and this morning gave up four kits in her litter to Caper. All look to be tricolour, time will tell if they have smut. They already have round full bellies in a well-built nest.

This young man has found a home. He's off to keep a young lady happy.
From Dandi and Wasp. Dandi is a dutch doe, Wasp is holland lop. Wasp is a hugely curious boy who loves everyone, I am hopeful this boy will take after him. He's certainly gotten his gregarious nature! :) Born on March 27, 2024 as part of a litter of three. I expect him to remain small as he's from two dwarf breeds. Other than eating most of her straw for the nest, Juni built a wonderful nest for her two kidlets. She pulled so much fur she's rather bald. I breathed a sigh of relief that FINALLY after lots and lots of tries, Juni finally had kits! Watch me GrowFive kits from a breeding I didn't see happen and three days early.... Lovely nest. Five kits that are mismarks for being Dutch, all black. Lost the four I had left with her, she completely tore apart the nest when the kits were three days old. I don't know why, but her first litter was a wreck as well. Her solo kit remains fostered to Juni. Watch Me GrowSo I was fairly convinced, due to no belly budge, that Onyx had missed. So I almost forgot to give her a nest box. I'm very glad that I did. She delivered up six kiddos in a largish nest just brimming with fur. I'm expecting them all to be tricolours. Onyx has one small kit that I've fostered to Juni, hopefully that will give it a boost for a couple of days. Watch Me GrowThree kits born to this first time momma. She built a marvelous nest and had them tucked into a small pocket of a nest. So far she seems to be feeding them. She is very mildly protective. Based on parentage I was surprised to see such a dark kit in the group. I expected all tricolours. Watch Me GrowKimo was squeaking at Saddle through habitat walls yesterday so I suspected she was due fairly soon. She was fairly deliberate about telling him to stay away from her and he's such a good boy he listened! Anyways, she built a horrible nest so I helped her build a better one. She had a large litter and she's just a small girl. I have some does due in a couple of days so if she needs some help it should be available to her shortly. She has seven or eight kits. I thought I counted out seven kits, but when I look at the picture I'm wondering if there is eight. An update: we lost the entire litter. Something went through the rabbitry and freaked out the rabbits. Momma made some bad choices, the babies got cold and it went from bad to worse. Watch Me GrowMetal had her kits on March 14, and she's doing an excellent job. She had five kits, two were DOA. Her remaining kits are doing well. She needed some help tidying up the kits when they first arrived, but overnight she had them all tidied up and looking good. She's a protective momma but not bitey. Watch Me GrowFrankie, who has been playing hard to get this entire winter, finally decided that she wanted to be momma again. She built a humongous nest and deposited four kits within. One unfortunately was DOA, but the other three are thriving. Looks like harlequin and tricolour. Watch us GrowLitter of three, confined within a HUGE nest of fur (plus tons outside the nestbox). Dandi is proving to be a very nice young doe though she is a bit on the skittish side. I had someone ask on Facebook why I did a mixed breeding. My Dutch buck is on the shy side and takes his time wooing the ladies. AND if a doe is on the skittish side gets very quiet and sits in the corner. So then I'd normally leave them together for a week which settles them down. BUT Dandi does not share space well. She's a self-contained lass who doesn't like other bunnies too close to her. (hence her slight skittishness). So I introduced her to all my boys and she thought Wasp was the cat's meow so ... we now have kits off Dandi for a first time litter. Sometimes you gotta do what the ladies request eh? We have one broken black, one solid black and one black with a white nose and white foot. Watch Me Grow |
AuthorI have been breeding rabbits for a quite a few years. I thoroughly enjoy them as animals and think they make great pets. I also like to take some of them to rabbit shows to see how they measure up to the standards. For the BEST rabbit forum I've ever found. Go to Rabbittalk.com. Good for the pet rabbit owner as well as the breeder for meat or show.
